References to the Colchester Orbital are very welcome but more introduction is needed as to what the Orbital actually comprises, its origins and aims.
The Colchester Orbital gets a number of mentions in the plan, all of which are welcome and to be supported. However there is no real introduction to to what it is? 5.23 is I believe the first mention of the Orbital but without a basic description of what it comprises and hopes to achieve it remains a bit vague to anyone coming to it new. Possibly this is because it is considered self-explanatory, yet the Orbital aims are various and connect with a number of CBC objectives in the draft plan. And although it is basically a circular route around town, as implied, it is intended longer term to be supported by a further outer route, and to have radial connecting both to the centre, in other words to create a real GI network; with positive consequences for green space connectivity but also for sustainable transport. Could the draft plan connect to the following web page at this point for further info?: http://www.walkcolchester.org.uk/projects/the-colchester-orbital. Or simply include a little more background and vision taken from this page?

Please ensure that the needs of horse riders are included in the development of the Colchester orbital route, Coastal paths and that access for horse riders to open space should be assumed except where there is a specific reason for exclusion.
Horse riders need good circular routes, bridleways are useless unless they have safe approach/exit routes
for example PROW314-232 which begins close to the A12 on a fast road and ends on Axial Way, from fast road to fast road with no onward tracks rendering it almost unusable.

The loss of land to garden communities is a real worry in this regard, so should they go ahead there will need to be an enhancement of the provision and accessibility to green infrastructure
