Submission Draft Local Plan Consultation

We are currently working on a new Local Plan for Colchester which will provide the strategy for the growth of Colchester up the 2043, setting out what development will take place and where, and policies for the conservation and protection of the environment. Once adopted, the new Local Plan will replace existing local planning policies.

We are carrying out a consultation on the Submission Draft Local Plan. This consultation is in accordance with Regulation 19 of the Town and Country Planning Regulations 2012.

The Submission Draft Local Plan is a draft plan, but it is at an advanced stage.  We are inviting comments from residents and stakeholders on whether the plan is legally compliant and sound. This is the last opportunity to make comments on the plan, before it is submitted for independent examination to the planning inspector. Your comments will be reviewed by the Council but will also be sent to the planning inspector as information to support the independent examination.

This consultation will close at 4pm on Tuesday 13th October 2026.
